Jeep Backhoe and Dozer

http://blog.willysjeep.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/bhsmall.jpg bigger photo

The model 8-BH Backhoe for the Willys CJ5 model was a hydraulically operated device which attached to the small bed of the Jeep. It carried outrigger pads for stability and featured bucket widths of 12″ -20″ with replaceable teeth. It did require the 7000 # dual rear wheel axle to support it along with full length frame reinforcement. It was manufactured by Go- For-Digger Company with offices in Toledo,Oh and Hawthorne ,Ca.

This unit could dig to a depth of 8 feet and had a side to side swing of 170 degrees. It utilized a six spring clutch plate and feramic clutch disc for long life. Its dual hydraulic pumps had a top capacity of 11 gallons per minute at a low 100 rpm’s. The use of two pumps was purportedly the latest design to provide greater efficiency at lower maintenance costs.

It used the smaller one to control side swing and downriggers while the large one was dedicated to the bucket itself.

This was quite the apparatus to be carried on the modified CJ5 with its F-134 and 3 speed transmission. As it was a self transported machine, the savings over another hauler/trailer could be substantial.

waterproofing

Why a snorkel? Cause you never know how deep that creek is.... and once you are in, it is too late. Taking in water through the air intake can hydraulic an engine which leads to bent and thrown rods. We know this as we had our engine blow up on the way back from Rubicon once after taking an unexpected deep drop.

Our snorkel clad vehicle deep in the swamp of the Four wheeler magazine Top Truck Challenge.... Tank Trap!!!

It also came in handy during the 97' Top Truck Challenge hosted by Four Wheeler magazine. We found ourselves in a swamp over 4' deep. The snorkel saved the day and our engine. Not to mention.... the judging staff thought the snorkel just plain looked awesome!

Other benefits of the snorkel are performance related. The snorkel installation on the XJ America page noted improved power and gas mileage after installation.... when they were expecting opposite results. This due to the ram-air effect the snorkel has on feeding your intake (kinda like how a supercharger works, only not as forceful). Your engine also breathes cooler air from outside of the vehicle which produces more efficient power.

Tim Gibson's '94 Wrangler was running full-width 1-ton axles with 4.56 gears and made mincemeat of the hills in the park. The 35-inch Swampers made the needed traction, while the Holley Truck Avenger carb-equipped Chevy big-block took care of the torque. A TH400 auto and NP205 transfer case chose the gears, while leaf springs did the twisting. View Related Article

This is an awesome, never been in an accident ,1993 Jeep Wrangler Sport! It's an extreme offroader able to handle anything as well as a great highway vehicle. Here's why;

1. I'm the second owner and it has been my daily driver and have owned it since 1996.

2. It has the 4.0L straight six with a 5 speed manual.

3. Has a 4 inch Skyjacker suspension lift and a 2 inch shackle lift.

4. "456" gears in both front and rear differentials (pumpkins).

5. ARB lockers in both front and rear with the adapter to fit a hose to fill all four tires.
